Training Kilometers Cycled: 20 km
Training Miles Run: 15 km
Woman Empowerment and Cycling.
10 women from Bike2Work will cycle from Jakarta to Jepara - West to Central Java - to promote cycling, women involved in cycling, and the image of physically and mentally strong women. Since I am training to bike across Java they asked me to come along as training for my own ride later. Serious? I wasn't sure if it was one of those polite invites that no one actually expects to be accepted.

Car-Free Jakarta.
Every Sunday, the central area of Jakarta is blocked off for bikes and pedestrians. It's actually really amazing. Jakarta is known for two things: traffic and traffic. Heather and I joined the Bike2Work gang at their booth to just hang out.
The non-crowded section.
My student Nanas even came out. She braved traffic alone, helmet-less, and on a fold bike.
Baik-less Me.
Back to the invite. I so want to go but there are 4 main obstacles that all must be resolved before I can go.
1) I need a bike - someone will lend me an old cross-country bike that needs to be fixed up.
2) I need a rack for my panniers - ...
3) I need panniers - check!
4) I need permission from the team coach - he may judge me to be too much of a liability.
So on Tuesday, after class, I will pack up my things and show up to ask the coach. If he says yes, I will need to prep my bike ASAP and look for a rack. If he says no, well... then I cheer on the group and make my way back home. Wish me luck.
