Kilometers Cycled Today: 136 km
Cirebon to Pekalongan
The Ride.
Flat. Oceanside. Beautiful. Hot. Huge trucks. Potholes. Many cycle club meet ups. The Srikandi pushed themselves pretty hard today, arriving in Pekalongan much earlier than expected. I think several got heat exhaustion to some degree.
Part of the Collective.
Up to the 5th day of cycling I had been unofficially part of the Bike2Work community for 8 days. As you can see, anyone would be skeptical of me accompanying them on such an event for such a distance. In the morning, I got a cycling shirt like the rest of the team was wearing! Either it means I've become more a part of the group or they thought my long sleeve shirt was a really bad idea for the day. I had no time to put on sunscreen since I was all out and so I got some pretty decent burns/tans. By the end of the day, I could feel how much harder it was for my body to regulate my temperature. I've grown to like the support guys more and more; they're funny, not creepy, and not too PC.
Geographical Shift.
We crossed from West to Central Java. I never seriously heard the Javanese accent until today. How could I have lived on Java for so long and not have noticed the clear difference? It's pretty hard to adapt to, especially when people think I'm Indonesian and don't use the easier words that I'm used to.
The ocean was just yonder.
The antique Dutch bikes I keep on writing about.
The Srikandi with the Tanggerang Rangers - a select group of cycle commuters who do at least 50 km a day, some on fold bikes. Serious?
Aristi on one of the local bike enthusiasts super-tall bike.
