Location: Upstream area of the Cisadane River in Sukabumi
Group Name: Satria Muda (Young Knights)
Satria Muda is a local farmers’ organization founded by the village youth of Sungapan village and Pasir Buncir village. They were officially formed as a group on July 16th, 2010 with the mission to improve community living standards and the community’s economy through sustainable development of the local environment. There are 23 farmers who are members of the group. Their main activities are organic farming, fish farming, cultivation of local timber and local fruit tree. They organically harvest vegetables like water spinach, spinach, pepper, field mustard, tomato, etc. Satria Muda will use 20%-30% of the income from their produce to conserve the upstream area of the Cisadane watershed. On April 22, 2011 Satria Muda came together with 4 other groups from different villages in the same area to form a youth forum called Shapta Panca Buana.
The Shapta Panca Buana Forum
Shapta Panca Buana name is taken from the Sanskrit language meaning “the five oaths of Earth’s protector”. The groups that formed this forum are Senandung Nada Hijau, Satria Muda, Kampung Hijau, Harbapala and Kepling. The mission of the forum is to share knowledge, work together to conserve the upstream area of Cisadane Watershed (especially the area at the foot of Gede Pangrango Mountain, which is also a national park), and to support each others’ mission.
