Days Left to Journey: 13 Days (Departure date changed from May 24th to May 23rd)
Sponsor Update.
Yes, I know that's the most lame post title so far; I couldn't resist. Without further ado, I'd like to announce that our proposal for equipment sponsorship from Eiger has been accepted! They will provide us with the equipment we requested except for sleeping bags, since they are in short supply. We'll be going to their factory this Friday to pick out our new gear! The Polygon Cycle sponsorship is still in the process. This news deserved a nice firm fist pump on an under-lit public bus on my way home.
Twitter Update.
Yes, I actually started one. How I'm supposed to use it, I'm still not sure. And how did I do research in social informatics and not get kicked off the research team? All I can say is that it was about blogs and not Twitter. To the right is where the Twitter updates are at.
WORDS Update.
Remember the WORDS competition? Well, we got some news coverage from the Jakarta Post! I'm actually just stealing this link from all the other more pro-active ETAs.
Hash Update.
I think I had a post about Bogor Hash a while back. I want to revisit it. In addition to cycling, I love hashing. No, it has nothing to do with smoking or drugs. Without getting into too much detail, it's a running community that loves running through the mountains of the nearby Bogor area. It originated in Malaysia from the Australian expat community there - so the story goes. They used to be known as "drinkers with a running problem", but the Bogor version is much more family and community oriented. The trail is set by "hares" using small pieces of paper to mark the trail. There are "check arounds" marked by a circle where runners must choose between paths to search for the trail again; "check backs" marked by an X that means turn back and find the real trail; and "arrows" that mark unexpected direction changes if the "hare" deems it necessary. This week's run was one of the few runs I actually brought a camera for.
Hashing.
Hashing. |
Some of the obstacles we must go through as part of the trail. |
Through veggie fields; minding the crops, of course. |
The long hare (long run) hashers searching for the new path after a "checkback" was found by yours truly. |
No, that is not a straw-and-mud brick to build a home, that's my shoe. |
"On on!!" - (we've found the next trail marker, or we've finished the run for the day)
