Day 34: "So, I've Been Reading Your Blog..."

Reaction to...
When someone you haven't seen for a while starts a sentence with "I read your blog...", it's usually followed by phrases like, "...and it's not something you have to be ashamed of"; or "...I know your pain, it happened to me last year." This weekend is the Fulbright English Teaching Assistants' WORDS English competition in Jakarta. 43 ETAs brought 42 students from across the nation of Indonesia to present their ideas of "[Their] generation's vision for Indonesia". It is a reunion of sorts thrown in with a jumble of Indonesian students with a wide range of personalities.

...Seeing the ETAs
I cannot express how awesome it is to see everyone, to hear their stories, to reconnect and, if you're an ETA who misses physical contact, to touch base. So I left you hanging; today my heart was warmed when I heard, "I read your blog and I've been following your bike trip prep". Then I immediately began soliciting for donations - I have no shame. It also makes me happy to hear about all the ETAs' post-Fulbright plans.

...The Students
Seeing a small Indonesian girl eat an American-sized burger at Chili's - Jakarta; recording an instructional Fajita-making video; hoping that our students make friends; watching the excitement of our students realizing that Agnes Monica is in the same room; these things will probably be more significant memories for me than for them.
